SQUEEGEE MOVES
Mix & Match
This is more of an approach than a process. Go beyond the edition and take the opportunity to print that image onto something random.
MATERIALS
Any old image you have on your screen.
Random partially printed images, interesting papers, anything laying around is fair game.
If you can afford a lot of screens (in terms of cost or storage space), you can have a veritable library of images around for use when the opportunity strikes.
PROCESS
Again, this is more of an approach so there isn’t a precise how-to.
I like to have random ‘in progress’ prints around whenever I print pretty much anything (this includes non-screenprinted images). In the moment I decide what makes sense where. Over each image accumulates layer after layer (sometimes over the course of years) until I decide their done. I tend to make very different images this way, discovering color combinations and compositions I would never would have otherwise.
I also think it’s interesting to see what happens to an image when printed in another context. It can help prevent tunnel-vision in image making.
This process doesn’t have to be spur-of-the moment. It can also mean making very thoughtful and deliberate choices as to where else an image might make sense or do something interesting.
